WRIN.tv goes “On the Road” to the Joint Industry Forum, hosted by the Insurance Information Institute (III).  Here, III President and CEO Sean Kevelighan reflects on 2016, contemplates the challenges ahead in 2017, including the impact of the new administration in Washington, and the outcomes of the 2017 Joint Industry Forum.

Looking back at 2016, Mr. Kevelighan says industry professionals had a pivotal moment when they appeared to accept that “disruption is everywhere”, from natural and man-made catastrophes to technology and digitization. In 2017, he expects monetary (interest rates) and fiscal policies (taxes) to be among the challenges facing the industry. The new administration has an opportunity to break the “gridlock” that has gripped Washington for years. Tax policies and any look-back at the Dodd-Frank Act will be of keen interest to industry executives.

The Joint Industry Forum brings together leaders from insurance businesses with trade association leaders. Mr. Kevelighan comments on discussions that suggest the industry needs to look at itself more as a “collective whole” and less as pure competitors.
