He notes that soft market conditions and excess capital have been a challenge over the past three years. As a result, RRGs are reconsidering their business models as well as their relationships with their members. Mr. Nofziger notes that there is “innovation bread from this adversity.” He singles out Sandy Elsass as an example of people stepping up in the risk retention community. He is heading up the Structured Healthcare Management Innovation, which addresses challenges created by implementation of the Affordable Care Act. Mr. Nofziger also notes the importance of meetings like the NRRA Conference as the only opportunity for RRGs to assemble, communicate and learn as a community.
