MetLife submitted comments to the Fed as part of a request for information for a quantitative impact study to evaluate the potential effects of a regulatory capital framework on certain insurers, including SIFIs. The comments are confidential, but an October meeting between Fed staff and MetLife executives on capital standards could provide a window into the newly designated SIFI’s perspective on capital standard structures for insurers.

Shanghai-based Fosun International will acquire Michigan-based P&C insurer Meadowbrook Insurance Group for $8.65 per share in cash, representing an aggregate transaction value of about $433 million. The deal represents a substantial premium to the price of Meadowbrook’s stock, which jumped in response.
