Here, Dr. Bob Hartwig, President of the Insurance Information Institute, shares his thoughts on the new Congress, the debate over capital standards, technology, and more. Here, Dr. Hartwig discusses the new, “more conservative” Congress. While there are not a large number of issues facing the Congress in 2015, there are a few “hold-over” issues from Dodd-Frank implementation. While the Republican Congress may try to legislate changes to the Affordable Care Act, they would not have the votes to override a Presidential veto. Meanwhile, Obamacare remains the law of the land, at least for the next two years. Dr. Hartwig points out the significance of the MetLife challenge to its designation as a SIFI (Systemically Important Financial Institution) as another major issue in the Courts in 2015. “How do you get yourself out of this “Hotel California that the call a SIFI here in the Untied States?” The full interview can be found here.
