Florida Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier discusses issues that are top-of-mind among regulators, including the amount of data in the public domain regarding consumers. While there are many positive uses of data, regulators are looking to make sure that insurance carriers are using it appropriately.

Commissioner Altmaier, acknowledges the “good work” being done by companies like AAIS to educate consumers, regulators and other stakeholders regarding innovations emerging in the marketplace.

Mr. Altmaier sees the way consumers interact with service providers is changing, whether it’s ordering food, securing a ride, or scheduling vacations. It is up to the regulatory community to keep up with those trends to protect consumers. In the end, he sees opportunity to provide more benefits to consumers who will be “better off.”
