Growth Strategies in Asia

World Risk and Insurance News spoke with Mike Morrissey, President and CEO of the International Insurance Society (IIS), during the recent Joint Industry Forum in New York.  Mr. Morrissey believes the tone of discussions at this year’s event was different.  Leaders are talking more about long-term structural changes in the insurance business.

Here, speaks with International Insurance Society (IIS) President and CEO Mike Morrissey about the growth opportunities he sees in Asia.

Mr. Morrissey see the growth opportunities in Asia falling into two categories:  companies in mature markets like Japan and Korea, where the economy is slowing down, are looking to make acquisitions to grow internationally, and companies in countries experiencing their internal economy growth like Indonesia, Malaysia and China.  Mr. Morrissey noted that China, while experiencing its own growth, is also looking to grow internationally.  In fact, Mr. Morrissey recently visited two leading risk management universities in China, further supporting dramatic growth in the Chinese insurance industry.
